Your Excellency,

We very much welcome the steps undertaken by King Mohammed VI towards greater political pluralism in your country.

However, we are very concerned to hear that, time and again, foreign Christians are expelled from Morocco for violating Article 220 of the Penal Code, which forbids evangelisation in your country. Moreover, Article 220 imposes heavy fines and even imprisonment.

We call on you to draw your Government’s attention to Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the UN, in which the rights to religious freedom and to practice one’s religion are guaranteed. As a member of the UN Human Rights Council, Morocco should grant this right.

Üdvözöljük VI. Mohamed királynak a politikai pluralizmus irányába tett intézkedéseit.

Ugyanakkor aggodalommal vesszük tudomásul, hogy külföldi keresztényeket utasítanak ki Marokkóból, és azzal vádolják őket, hogy megsértették a btk. 220. cikkelyét. Ez azt jelenti, hogy az Ön országában tilos a hittérítés, amelyet börtönnel és súlyos pénzbüntetéssel torolnak meg.

Kérjük Önt, sürgősen utasítsa a kormányt az ENSZ Emberi Jogok Egyetemes Nyilatkozata 18. cikkelyének betartására. Marokkónak, amely tagja az ENSZ Emberi Jogi Tanácsának, meg kell védelmeznie ezeket a jogokat.
